Turkish Coffee Served in a Traditional Pot

Coffee making is indeed a fine art. A change in the brewing method and the body of the coffee changes the way the coffee drink tastes and feels. The aroma, the flavor and the kick that it gives, all depend on the way the coffee is prepared. In this particular article, we shall teach you the perfect way to create a cup of Turkish coffee. Let us first take a look at the ingredients that are needed for making Irish coffee.

  • A copper ibrik, or a cezve. Make sure that the cezve has a long wooden handle.
  • Arabica coffee that is very finely ground. The coffee used for making Turkish coffee essentially needs to be very fine, even finer than the one used for making espresso.
  • A fincan. A demitasse is a little smaller than this one. So you would need to go for the larger traditional Turkish fincan.

You will need one fincan of water for each person. So begin with pouring cold water into the ibrik. Turkish coffee is very strong. So even if you think that since you are an espresso drinker, you would be able to go without any sugar at all, you must re think and add some sugar to it. Stir the sugar, the water and the coffee till the three blends well together and a thick consistency is achieved. A maximum of 2 to 3 spoons of coffee needs to be added to the water. Now you need to brew it on heat. The coffee boils pretty fast and you need to pay real good attention to the brewing at this point. The moment it starts boiling and there is foam around the rim of the cup, you know that it is time to turn off the burner. Distribute the coffee into the fincans and serve with a glass of water. The water helps to enjoy the taste of the coffee better. The palate is refreshed and takes in the taste and the flavor of the coffee better.
