Some like it for its style and artistic quotient, some like it for its cultural significance, some like it because it is less dangerous a threat to the body. Firstly, we shall take a look at the effects of tobacco or nicotine and the reason people get addicted to it. Nicotine reacts with the nervous system, thereby slightly affecting the pleasure centers of the brain. It seems to have a relaxing and exciting effect on people. The greatest threats to the human system, due to smoking are lung cancer, chronic bronchitis and emphysema. Addicts forget or try to neglect the knowledge about the dangers that they are vulnerable to. Following are the most dangerous effects of smoking.
• Cigarettes have a mixture of Carbon monoxide and Nicotine, which raises the blood pressure suddenly, thereby making the smoker feel somewhat elated and perked up. A regular intake of tobacco smoke can strain the blood vessels and the heart. Most smokers do not have the idea about how much damage they are doing to their heart.
• Tar coats the lungs, just the way soot coats a chimney. A person who smokes 20 cigarettes a day consumes almost a cup of tar that is almost 210 grams of tar in one particular year. The harmful effects of this are beyond imagination.
• Carbon monoxide when enters into your system, mixes in the bloodstream, when actually oxygen should mix with the blood. Therefore your muscles, the limbs and in fact the full system does not receive the amount of oxygen that it needs.
• It gradually eats away at the vitality of the heart and in youngsters, 3 out of every 4 deaths caused by heart diseases are due to tobacco. It causes a deposit of fat, thereby narrowing down the blood vessels, and ultimately leading to a heart attack.
• Smoking during pregnancy can lead to abortion, premature birth, low birth rate, etc. It can be the cause to perennial mortality in humans.
• Tobacco contributes to cancer.
Tobacco is a killer in disguise. It kills one, gradually and very painfully, yet we cannot deny the capacity of it to ease tension, even if it is temporary. People fall prey to the illusionary comfort and relaxation that it provides. By the time they realize that they should check the rate at which they are smoking, they are already addicted. Tobacco smoking kills innumerable people all over the globe each year. It kills without discriminating and giving a second chance.
